Head Shot Michelle Mbekeani-Wiley Staff Attorney, Community Justice

Michelle Mbekeani-Wiley earned her B.A. from Stony Brook University and her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School, where she was awarded the Tony Patino Fellowship. In law school, Michelle served as a law clerk for the Police Accountability Clinic and the Invisible Institute. There she participated in a youth project designed to discuss and improve the everyday interactions between youth of color and police officers. Michelle started her legal career with the Civil Rights Team at Equip for Equality, providing legal assistance to individuals living with disabilities. As a former Émigré Memorial German Fellow, she worked for Germany’s State Parliament in the Department of Education and Integration advocating for primary/secondary language assistance programs for immigrant children in Germany. Michelle is currently a Commissioner on the Village of Oak Park’s Community Relations Commission. She is on the Board of Directors for the League of Women Voters - Oak Park and River Forest Chapter and also serves as the Advocacy Chair for the Chicago Urban League's Metropolitan Board.
